Discover The Rusted Spoon

The Rusted Spoon sits quietly along the highway in Perry, Utah, yet it’s the kind of place locals talk about the moment breakfast plans come up. Located at 2645 S Hwy 89, Perry, UT 84302, United States, this diner-style restaurant feels familiar in the best way possible, like the kind of stop you make once and somehow end up returning to again and again.

The first time I ate here was on a chilly morning after a long drive through Box Elder County. I wasn’t expecting much beyond eggs and coffee, but what landed on the table told a different story. The menu leans heavily into comfort food, with generous portions and recipes that feel intentionally from scratch. Their breakfast plates come out hot, fast, and unapologetically hearty, which explains why locals crowd the booths before most places even unlock their doors.

One thing that stands out is how consistent the kitchen is. According to research from the National Restaurant Association, consistency is one of the top three factors that drive repeat visits, and that principle clearly applies here. I’ve returned multiple times over the past year, ordering different items each visit, and the food quality hasn’t wavered. Hash browns are crisp without being greasy, pancakes are fluffy rather than dense, and the bacon arrives exactly how you ask for it. That kind of reliability doesn’t happen by accident; it usually means solid kitchen processes and experienced cooks who know their timing.

The lunch side of the menu shifts toward classic diner staples like burgers, sandwiches, and daily specials. One afternoon, I watched a server explain the soup-of-the-day to a table of first-time visitors, mentioning it was prepared early that morning. The USDA notes that freshly prepared foods stored and served at safe temperatures reduce foodborne risk significantly, and places that take those steps tend to earn more trust from customers. You can feel that attention to care here, not just in the food but in how it’s handled.

Service plays a big role in why reviews stay positive. Servers remember faces, refill coffee without being asked, and keep the pace relaxed rather than rushed. Yelp data shows that restaurants with attentive but non-intrusive service score nearly 20 percent higher in overall customer satisfaction, and that tracks closely with what people say about this spot. Scrolling through recent reviews, you’ll see the same phrases pop up again and again, like friendly staff, quick service, and worth the drive.

What also makes this place memorable is its role in the Perry community. I’ve chatted with farmers grabbing breakfast before work and families meeting up after local events. Diners like this often function as informal community hubs, and sociologists from organizations like the American Sociological Association have pointed out how neighborhood restaurants strengthen local connections. That sense of belonging is hard to manufacture, yet it feels organic here.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. Seating can feel tight during peak breakfast hours, and if you’re in a hurry, weekend mornings might test your patience. That said, the wait rarely feels frustrating because the staff keeps everyone informed, and the food arrives fresh rather than rushed. Transparency like that builds trust, even when things get busy.

Overall, this restaurant delivers exactly what it promises: honest food, dependable service, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels grounded rather than trendy. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick meal or making it a regular part of your routine, it’s easy to see why so many diners leave satisfied and ready to come back.

  • Everything is FANTASTIC! Service was very friendly and fast. Cozy atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Easy to miss if your driving though, you gotta really look for it.

  • Parking is around back. Looks like a driveway to a house… because it basically is. Don’t bring your own silverware the “rusty spoon” is just a name. Same great food as the Ogden location! Condiments always available. I imagine their fruit pies in July August are local fruit as we travelled through several orchards in the way here.

  • I used to go there often but this visit was the best it's ever been! Crunchy French toast with peaches was heaven and my daughter loved her waffles with peaches.

  • My husband and I were traveling across the country and decided to stop in at The Rusted Spoon — and we’re so glad we did! The decor was fun and unique, giving the restaurant such a cozy, welcoming vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food came out warm and full of flavor — from the perfectly cooked pancakes to the hearty breakfast burrito, everything was delicious! The hot chocolate was the perfect touch on a snowy day and brought a smile to both of our faces. We didn’t have to wait long to be seated, and the food came out quickly. We’d definitely come back again — such a great little stop!

  • it's somewhat hidden but definitely a hidden gem. Felt like very homey and cozy inside. the food was great and used fresh ingredients. the prices are reasonable and affordable. it took a minute to be seated but it was a Saturday at 11am. the workers were very kind and hardworking. would definitely recommend anyone that is passing by for breakfast.

  • One of the best brunch places in Utah by far, in my opinion. The bacon was fresh, the hash browns buttery, and the French toast was scrumptious. Fast and friendly service

  • What a great restaurant! I'm so tired of chain, frozen, fast food. This place has amazing sandwiches and desserts (scones). Will come here again next time I'm in town. I would recommend they put cinnamon in their honey butter but overall it was amazing.

  • What a great local spot for breakfast! We went to celebrate my sister's birthday and we had such a good time. Breakfast was delicious, our server was very attentive and helpful, and the restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. It was pretty busy when we went, but we still didn't have to wait too long for our large party (7) to be seated and our food and drinks were served quickly. Parking was a bit tricky since the lot was very full but not really a problem.
